Vasteras is one of Sweden's leading logistics cities, where all major transportation resources are available.
Vasteras offers good road and rail opportunities for personal and freight transport, an airport near the city centre, the Nordic region's largest inland port and major computer highways with good broadband deployment in the city. The road systems are very good in all directions and in the next few years they will be further improved. Already today by car or truck you can reach a total market of around three million people within little more than 1.5 hours. A third of the population of Sweden can be reached within a 150 km radius.
For travel by rail, the "Malarbanan”, is well developed with a high frequency train service. It takes approximately 55 minutes to travel to and from Stockholm and Orebro. Vasteras city owns and provides rail access to the Hacksta and Stenby industrial districts as part of the city’s infrastructure. Rail infrastructure is also a part of the environmental policy that the city has adopted.
Vasteras Airport has passenger flights to London and Barcelona. The airport is also a centre for fast and reliable air freight services. The airport offers other types of flights on demand.
Sea transport to and from the region is run by Malarhamnar AB, which together with ship owners and agents offers a well developed traffic to major ports on the continent, to England and to USA. Vasteras is one of the largest container ports on the Swedish east coast. The port can accept vessels with a draught of up to seven metres and goods are loaded onto trucks or rail wagons for further transportation and can use Combi Terminal supporting fool intermodality.
Strong logistics-intensive businesses have discovered the communicative benefits. For example, ICA (a large food retail chain) is expanding significantly in Vasteras with larger freezers and more storage capacity.
